Skills Bank - A partnership between parents, families, community and the school.
At Greengate Lane School we appreciate that parents lead busy lives yet may wish to get more involved with our school, but are concerned about how much time they could commit.
We invite parents, family and community members to register a skill or other talent with our Skills Bank. All we are asking for is the offer to provide up to one hour of your time per term.
What skills are we looking for?
These could relate to your line of work e.g. building, plumbing, web design, child care. The school would benefit from occasional advice. However, we are not just looking for work related skills. You may well possess other hidden talents. You could make valuable contribution to the projects the children undertake, for example explaining how life was when you were a child or how the area has changed over the years.
Grandparents/great grandparents can relay to the children what life was like during the war years. Maybe your talent is your hobby and you can make a valued contribution to art lessons, model making, needlework etc. The possibilities are endless.
It may be that the company you work for provides community grants or welcomes community involvement and the school may benefit from the partnership with them.
The more support that parents, carers, family and community can
offer the school, the greater the range of opportunities that will be open to our children.
We've placed the Skills Bank information on this page so that you have our contact details immediately to hand.
As volunteers, the school will be happy to put a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check through for you at no cost. You will appreciate that we take the utmost care in the protection of our children and this is a mandatory procedure for all volunteers in schools now.
