Poynton Rambling Club

Walking mainly in the Peak District members are from the suburbs of Stockport in Cheshire including Macclesfield, Cheadle and Wilmslow.  You’ll find joining us is an excellent way of meeting new friends as well as a good way to exercise and enjoy the lovely countryside we have in this part of England.  There is an organised walk of 8-12 miles every Sunday (except when a weekend away has been organised) and a mid-week walk of a similar length every 2 weeks.  There are also evening walks organised from May to Aug.  To facilitate lift sharing to the start of the walk, on Sundays, we meet at Torkington Park Car Park at 9.30.  A map giving the location of this meeting point is on the website (click here).  If you are a newcomer, you do not need to be worried about trying to find an unknown party of walkers at start the walk miles from anywhere!

If you do decide to try out a walk with us, please be aware that we could be walking across muddy fields on some part of the walk and you do need to have reasonably sturdy water-proof boots.  We do not normally stop at a pub or shops during the walk so you do need to bring your provisions for the day with you.  Drinks and something to eat for lunch.  For those who enjoy a relaxing hour in the pub after the walk, you will almost certainly find a few walkers to join you, but it is not compulsory!  Depending on weather conditions we recommend that you bring an anorak, an extra layer of warm clothing, gloves, and overtrousers.  A page giving guidance for walkers can be accessed by clicking the link.

As well as Sunday walks and mid-week walks, there are walks in the evenings during the summer months.  For more details check out the Events Calendar.
