There is always a wealth of high quality displays and examples of children’s work at all levels for parents to look at.
The nursery unit has 26 morning and 26 afternoon places and is staffed by a Nursery Teacher and a Nursery Nurse. We have a brand new nursery, which was opened in September 2005 and is fully equipped to the highest standard including gardens and outdoor play facilities.
‘Play’ is considered central to the education of young children.
Children follow the Foundation Stage Curriculum. This is split into areas of literacy, mathematics, creative, physical, social and emotional well being, knowledge and understanding of the world and underpins all future learning. Photographs and samples of work are collected for the child’s ‘pupil profile’ as part of the assessment process. Parents are welcome to take these home at the end of Nursery and will have opportunities to discuss them during their child’s time at Nursery.
The Nursery and Reception staff has established excellent communications and join together for special assemblies and other activities.
(Age 5 or under)
The last year of the Foundation Stage is known as the Reception Year where children continue to work towards the early learning goals.
The emphasis is on understanding number and on helping pupils become independent readers and writers.
The children have a large classroom and a separate outside play area.
Nursery and Reception work closely together providing continuity and progressions for foundation pupils. We are delighted with our newly built Foundation Unit, which was opened in September 2005.
