Parent Governor Elections
I would like to thank two of our governors who have retired this term, Mrs Moira Chester and Mr Kenny Gibson for their hard work and dedication over their four year term of office; they have both brought many specialism’s and expertise to school. I would also like to welcome Mrs Kate Siswick and Mrs Rachel Roylance who have been elected to the Governing Body in our recent elections, Mrs Ruth Mayhew was re-elected and so our Governing Body is once again complete and ready to move the school forward.
End of Year events/ PTA
As usual the year has ended with a wonderful, summer madness with everyone cramming as much as possible into the last few days.
The Year 3/4/5 production of “Cinderella Rockerfella” was fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone despite the amazing amount of hard work. Year 6 really rose to the occasion with the “Brit Awards” and went out in style! There is always a great deal of talent and a wonderful sense of fun and enjoyment when such lavish productions are undertaken.
In fact, I would like to congratulate all the children and staff for all their hard work and for being so entertaining but especially members of Year 6 on being superb throughout the year, we will miss them all, but we wish them good luck in all they do as they move on.
Year 5/6 also enjoyed a visit to Wetherby High to watch the “Wizard of Oz” and Year 3 worked at Wetherby High in the DT department producing Roman chariots. Reception really enjoyed their visit to Cannon Hall despite the awful rainy weather. Year 1 went all the way to Scarborough and Year 2 went to the Thackray Museum, both had a fantastic time! The whole school enjoyed a superb production of “Treasure Island” and Nursery visited the Railway museum. We have also had a healthy lunch made and eaten by Year 1 and their parents, a Roman Feast in Year 3 fully kitted out in togas and laurel wreaths and a Mexican Buffet in Year 2, all very tasty and interesting. We are a very well travelled school indeed!
We were exceptionally proud of all the children who took part in the Rotary Club Public Speaking Competition and particularly those who went through to the final and valiantly represented our school. Melissa, Charlotte, Grace and Maisie were overall winners for the Year 3 / 4 category and justly deserved their win, they were brilliant. The Rotary Club have donated £400 to our school funds which is extremely generous, so many thanks for the opportunity to take part and for the prize.
Both staff and children were delighted to go to the cinema to watch “Space Chimp 2” for an end of year treat provided by the PTA - this is an event that the children really enjoy and always look forward to. We are always looking to welcome new PTA members so if you are interested in joining, please let me know, or a member of the PTA. A big thank you to all members of our PTA for all you have done this year – it makes a huge difference to our school. Our first meeting back in September is on Wednesday 15th September at 7.30pm. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.
I would also like to congratulate all the children who took part in the Wetherby in Bloom, “Flower football World Cup” and particularly to the winners who collected their book tokens from the Skipton Building Society. Well done to everyone who took part and especially to Ben Prestwich, Joshua Johnson, Buo Yi Lin, Ellie Atkinson, Laura Barlow and Bryony Gaunt who took first prize and Sophie Manterfield, Hazel Wright, Eleanor Wilde, Grace Taylor, Tyler Smith and Emily Davison who came second.
Our guitar players entertained us all to an end of year concert which was very relaxing and just showed us all how much talent we have in school. I was also delighted with our swimmers who represented our school in the Wetherby Swimming Gala. They did a brilliant job.
I am always delighted to receive so many very favourable comments about the wonderful behaviour of our children when they are out of school– it is always a pleasure to take children on visits and we are all proud when members of the public congratulate the children on their behaviour.
A complete breakdown of all the Curriculum Enhancement is available in the Parent Handbook in the entrance hall.
Building works
We will be having some works done over the summer including the water management programme, the safety glazing and some decorating in Year 2. Please keep a watchful eye on our grounds and report any vandalism to the police on 0113 2855374, thank you.
Wetherby Library
As usual the library is offering some holiday activities this year. The children have all been given leaflets about the reading activities but if you need further information please call into Wetherby Library.
Shoes for next term
Please could I remind everyone that children only wear pumps and trainers for PE. For normal day wear children should wear plain, black, sensible school shoes – absolutely no trainers.
SAT’s Results
All our children and staff worked extremely hard towards their tests and I am delighted with the results. Well done and thank you to everyone who was involved both during and after school. Every year group is different and we do offer a broad and balanced curriculum so that children experience a sense of adventure and learn about life experiences whilst working towards exams.
KS2 Results Level 4 or above Level 5
English 92% 55%
Maths 85% 44%
Level 4 is the average level for Year 6.
I am particularly pleased with the results especially considering our inclusive nature and the uncertainty that surrounded the SATs this year.
Also, very well done to all children who sat optional papers, I am very proud of all the pupils’ achievements, as I am sure you are.
Lost Property
Please check lost property, any remaining items will be given to the PTA to resell or sent to a charity- we have a smaller pile than usual this year!
End of Year Reports
Staff spent a great deal of time and effort personalising reports so I hope everyone found them informative and useful. Please do return the comment slips if you have not already done so. Thank you to all the parents who have returned the end of year report slips, all the comments made have been duly noted and will be discussed by the staff in preparation for next year.
Water Bottles and hats.
Please remember to send water bottles and hats with children especially during the hot weather.

School Attendance Codes
Just to confirm that when the school was closed on Tuedsay 5th January due to the snow, the absence will be recorded as C ( authorised circumstances) and as Y
( enforced closure) for the General Election. This will not make any difference to your child’s overall registration certificate, all figures stand as they are. If children have had full attendance apart from the snow closure and the general election, which will be disregarded, they will receive a well earned 100% attendance certificate.
Please note that I, along with the Chair of Governors, am doing my upmost to have the school taken off the council list to be used for elections. It is as much an inconvenience to the staff as it is to you and I feel very strongly that other buildings in Wetherby are far more suitable and pose much less of a risk.
Thank you !
I can’t believe we have reached the end of another school year and have many things planned well into next year! As a team, we have achieved so much and continue to work to improve and to make school a happy and successful place to be. All this would not be possible without the continued hard work of all the children and total dedication of all our staff including maintenance, admin and teaching and learning staff.
Thank you to all parents and governors for their support this year and especially those who help in school in many different ways. I wish everyone a healthy and relaxed holiday and look forward to the start of another new year on Friday 3rd September.
