Termly Curriculum Information

for my class

In English we will be looking at:-

  • Shared/guided reading.
  • Punctuation.
  • Different stories by the same author.
  • Extended stories/significant authors.
  • Poetry - humorous poems - tongue twisters.
  • Non-fiction  - non-chronological reports.
  • Learning letter sounds.

In mathematics we will concentrate on:-

  • Number
  • Place value
  • Addition and subtraction.
  • Mental strategies.
  • Money and "real life" problems.
  • Measures
  • Multiplication and division.
  • Shape and space

 

In Science we will be learning about:-

  • PLANTS, ANIMALS AND VARIATION.  We will be:-
  • Identifying plants and animals that live in the local environment.
  • Learning that there are similarities and differences between themselves and others.

  

In Art and/or Technology we will be:-

  • Exploring line, shape, colour and texture in natural forms and using observations to design and make a collage.
  • Designing and making a simple coat linked to the story of Joseph's coat of many colours.

In other subjects we will be learning about:-

  • The main features of a place of worship.
  • The life of Florence Nightingale.
  • A contrasting locality overseas - Tocuaro (a village in Mexico).
  • Exploring sounds in music.
  • Controlling a floor turtle in ICT.

 

You can help me by:-

  • Listening to your child read, daily if possible.
  • Learning key words.
  • Practising joined handwriting.
  • Completing weekly homework and signing or commenting in homework diaries.
  • Helping your child to learn spellings.
  • Practising letter sounds.

 

Special days for my class are:-

  • P.E. -  Monday and Friday - Please remember your PE kits on these days.  Your child may bring trainers/pumps/tracksuit/jogging trousers for games when we are outside this term.
  • Homework - Handed out on a Wednesday and to be returned by the following Monday.
  • Spelling Test - Friday
  • Show and Tell - as part of "Golden Time" every other Friday.

      

 

Other special days or events this half term are:-

  • Florence Nightingale workshop - Thackwray Medical Museum - Thursday 19th June
  • Methodist Church visit - To be arranged.
  • Training Days - Friday 23rd May, Monday 2lst and Tuesday 22nd July, 2008.
