Headteacher's Welcome
On behalf of the children, staff and governors of Barnton Community Primary School, I would like to welcome you to our school website. We are delighted that you have taken the trouble to look around and we hope that you find it interesting and informative.
Barnton Community Primary School is one-form entry and caters for the full primary age range; we currently have 217 pupils on roll.
We are fortunate to have many large and spacious work areas. In brief the building comprises 12 teaching areas, a science, music and technology room, a computer suite, library, large hall, adventure playground, extensive playing fields and wooded areas.
Barnton Pre-School, located within the main school building, opened in September 2001 and since this time has gained an excellent reputation in the local area for providing high quality care and education for children from two years nine months to five years of age. The pre-school is an integral part of Barnton Community Primary School, thus ensuring a smooth transition to the Reception class. This enables us to offer full Foundation Stage provision as well as KS1 and KS2.
I lead an enthusiastic and hardworking team of staff, who are committed to continuous improvement. We are currently looking at ways of responding to the Primary Strategy, Excellence and Enjoyment which at last gives us the authority to design and implement a curriculum which we feel best suits our children.
With modern technology opening up a huge wealth of information the task of the teacher has changed from delivering a content to a skill based curriculum. We teach children how to learn and how to manage and make best use of the technology available to them. Alongside this, we develop their understanding of what it means to be a global citizen, understanding and exercising personal responsibility and to being physically and emotionally literate.
English, mathematics, science and information technology underpin a broader and more balanced curriculum which attaches equal importance to the Arts, Humanities and all aspects of Physical Education.
Every child is valued, whatever his/her background, strengths and interests. We want all our children to leave Barnton Community Primary School as confident, self-assured young people who have strong values and principles and the skills to live happy and productive lives.
I hope that you will enjoy visiting our website and join us in celebrating our children’s achievements.
Mrs Annette S Chapman
