Barnton Community Primary School

Community Links

Barnton Pre-School operates very successfully within the school premises and provides an excellent introduction to early years education. The Pre-School is run by a Voluntary Community Committee of parents, governors and school staff and has very close links with the school. Children attend either morning or afternoon sessions which run from 9.00 a.m. - 11.30 a.m. and 12.45 p.m - 3.15 p.m. The group is registered for funding for three year olds, in addition to receiving funding for four year olds. Children are admitted to the Pre-School in the term in which they are three, if there are sufficient places.

The school has a childcare facility - Fun Club - providing each weekday both an After-School Club run by fully qualified staff who work at the school.

Barnton Primary School has close links with the local secondary schools to which the children transfer at the end of Year 6. Detailed information is provided and visits are arranged to the high schools in order to ensure a smooth transfer to secondary education.

Good relationships have been developed with Rosebank School and other special schools in the local area. The children benefit enormously from visiting other schools and providing a warm welcome when visitors from these schools come to Barnton.

The school is very fortunate to have close links with local churches. Each week one member of the local clergy takes a Family Assembly based on a particular theme, thus enabling the children to experience different types of collective worship.

The school is proud of its community links and provides a regular venue for two local Brownies groups and a Rainbow group.

Barnton Youth Football Club teams regularly use the school pitches for training and matches in the evenings and at weekends.

The FSA committee work hard to provide activities for parents and children and to raise funds for school. The FSA contribute towards the cost of transport for some trips and residentials. Staging for the school hall has been purchased and they are looking into providing lighting to further enhance our school productions. They have contributed funds to develop the school library and improve the outdoor environment. Discos for the children, the Christmas Fayre and the Summer Fayre are some of the events that have been organised by the FSA and have helped to establish firmer links between home and school.

Don't forget - we are holding our annual Open Day in June, to which all are warmly welcomed.  We hope to see you there!
