DISCIPLINE POLICY

RATIONALE

Through learning self-discipline , children will behave well, respect others, be courteous, trustworthy and respectful to others property.

Children are entitled to work in an atmosphere free from oppressive behaviour, such as bullying, sexism and racism.

We believe that positive discipline is the most effective.

POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT

Children will be given praise from:

their own teacher (for good work, effort and behaviour); other children

other adults; the whole school (at Friday Assemblies)

A “STAR” system is in operation to reward good behaviour in alternate years. Children can achieve special STARS for consistently good behaviour in school and also at lunch time. Children will also be given MERIT STICKERS, CERTIFICATES AND CUMULATIVE STAR CARDS as recognition of good behaviour. Children in year 6 will also be rewarded by means of privileges and responsibilities ie. being appointed as: , Class Prefect, Reading Partner, Office Prefect.

The school councillors will alert their teacher to children's concerns about inappropriate behaviour.

SHOULD THERE BE BEHAVIOUR WHICH UNDERMINES THIS ETHOS, THEN A RANGE OF SANCTIONS ARE EMPLOYED, THOUGH THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE CORPORAL PUNISHMENT.

•  Withdrawal of approval.
•  WARNING of what will happen if behaviour persists.
•  TIME-OUT in the classroom.
•  Stand still outside and miss playtime.
•  Detention during morning break. UNFINISHED WORK completed
•  Pick up litter.
•  No Playtime football.
•  Withdrawal of privileges.
•  Staff will keep a record of persistent bad behaviour. They will also log dramatic changes in behaviour

SERIOUS/ DANGEROUS BEHAVIOUR.

•  The Head or Deputy will interview the pupil and recommend action.
•  PARENTS will then be informed by letter.
•  A REPORT CARD will be issued and sent home nightly, for signing.
•  Following this, parents will be required to attend school for discussions.
•  GOVERNORS will be informed.
•  LIMITED EXCLUSION recommended.

CHILD PROTECTION

We have adopted the L.E.A guidelines. All staff will alert the NAMED PERSON

with any CHILD PROTECTION issues.
