BULLYING POLICY

"LOVE IS PATIENT AND KIND; IT IS NOT JEALOUS OR CONCEITED OR PROUD; LOVE IS NOT ILL-MANNERED OR SELFISH OR IRRITABLE; LOVE DOES NOT KEEP A RECORD OF WRONGS; LOVE IS NOT HAPPY WITH EVIL, BUT IS HAPPY WITH THE TRUTH. LOVE NEVER GIVES UP; AND ITS FAITH, HOPE AND PATIENCE NEVER FAIL."1 COR. 13.

What is bullying?

Bullying can mean many different things. All of them are wrong. Bullying is not acceptable in any form.

Someone who is being bullied will feel unable to stop it happening. It may be carried out by a group or by one person. It may involve hitting, kicking, threats, name-calling, or less obvious ways such as ignoring or excluding someone, ‘sending them to Coventry', or hiding or spoiling another person's belongings on more than one occasion.

Who are bullies?

The person or people doing the bullying may be the same age or older or younger than their victim. Both boys and girls can be a bully and can be bullied.

If you are being bullied.

  • try to stay calm and looks as confident as you can
  • be firm and clear – look them in the eye and tell them to stop
  • get away from the situation as quickly as possible and
  • tell an adult what has happened straight away

After you have been bullied

  • tell a teacher or another adult in school
  • tell your family
  • if you are scared to tell a teacher or another adult, ask a friend to go with you
  • keep on speaking until someone listens and does something to stop the bullying
  • if you have an older buddy, then tell them
  • do not blame yourself for what has happened

When you are talking to an adult about bullying

be clear about:

•  what has happened to you

•  how often it has happened

•  who was involved

•  who saw what was happening

•  where it happened

•  what you have done about it already

What will school do about it?

The school promises that:

•  it will always listen to you because everybody has the right to be happy and safe in our school.
•  it will deal with bullies and they will be given one chance to stop and their parents will be contacted.
•  it will keep careful records of any bullying
•  it will eventually exclude bullies who will not stop
