St
Anthony of Padua
Anthony
was born in Lisbon, in Portugal, in 1190. At the age of
17 he joined the monastry of St.Augustine. He met the Franciscan
monks who used to come to beg for food. Anthony was so impressed
by these friars who were willing to go off to foreign lands,
to preach the gospel, that he decided to join the order
and do the same.
Unfortunately
on his first journey he was shipwrecked and had to spend
considerable time doing menial tasks. Eventually he was
called upon to preach. He amazed everyone with his knowledge
of the scriptures and his skill with words, and from then
on he spent his life preaching and teaching in different
lands. He died in Padua , in Italy in 1231 on June 13th,
which is now kept as his feast day. Many miracles are attributed
to St. Anthony and Catholics frequently pray to St. Anthony
when they have lost something.
St. Anthony's
is a voluntary aided Roman Catholic Primary School . We
are part of the Parish Community and in partnership with
parents we enable children to learn the beliefs, attitudes
and values of a Christian way of life.
We hope this
information pack will help you and your child in getting
to know our school and how it works. Please do not hesitate
to contact the Headteacher Mrs Ford on 414761 or Chair of
Governors, Mr. Damian Whelan for further information. We
will be only too pleased to assist.
